What happened on Bull season 2 on Tuesday night? Let’s just say that it is one of the biggest surprises that we’ve seen on the CBS show since the start.
CarterMatt had a feeling even before the episode that we were going to see the Cable character in trouble, given that there was talk about her breaking the law in the midst of the latest case in order to help someone she cared about. Yet, eventually we saw Annabelle Attanasio’s character in a position where she was beyond the point of no return. As detached as he may be from time to time with the rest of the world, Bull does care about his team. With that, there was some pain in him having to fire the character at the end of the episode. He didn’t see another path forward after ensuring that she didn’t get any jail time.
What this does set up now are questions as to what the future is for this character. Is she really gone? One of the only things that we can say for certain is that she’s still listed among the regular cast in the press release for the next new episode, not that this always is a sure thing someone is staying. Just look at what happened with Amy Carlson on Blue Bloods earlier this season. She was listed in advance of the premiere only for her to not be all that much a part of the story in the end.
For the time being, there is no concrete evidence that the Cable character is gone for good. There is no official word on social media and there hasn’t been any word from CBS. For now, the network clearly wants this to be a cliffhanger. We understand that there must be consequences for some of Cable’s actions, but at the same time there has to be some sort of compromise … right?
No matter what happens, we will say that the final scene in this episode with Bull and Cable was all sorts of fantastic. Michael Weatherly was intense in a way that we haven’t seen him, whereas Attanasio was fantastic and perfectly defiant, practically jumping out of the limo the moment Bull started to lecture her. Maybe someday there will be middle ground, and maybe Bull will find a way to bring her back. (We do think that Cable did learn something from what happened.)
In terms of a Bull ending, we don’t know what else anyone could have wanted.
