Black Lightning episode 5 preview: Can Jefferson solve father’s murder?

Black Lightning episode 5

Black Lightning episode 5 is airing on The CW in one week’s time, and what we will end up seeing when this installment airs is more of Jefferson’s backstory, and also him revisiting a vital part of his life — the murder of his father. This is one of the long-unsolved mysteries for him, and for the longest time, it appeared as though the trail had run cold. All of that now seems to be changing to a certain extent. There is more evidence that is surfacing, and as a result of that you also have to be attune to the fact that there could be sort of setup. With a show like this, you have to wonder what the motives are that throw Jefferson back on this case.

Below, the Black Lightning episode 5 synopsis gives you more of a sense as to what could be coming up next:

An unexpected phone call unearths the long-buried need for Jefferson (Cress Williams) to investigate the murder of his father. Meanwhile, Annisa (Nafessa Williams) wrestles with the fact that her actions have dire consequences. Lastly, Jennifer (China Anne McClain) learns the importance of controlling her temper – in all situations. Christine Adams, James Remar, Damon Gupton and Marvin Jones III also star. The episode was written by Adam Giaudrone and directed by Rose Troche (#105). Original airdate 2/13/2018.

The promo below certainly gives us a good sense as to some of what could be coming up on the show next, but it doesn’t touch all that much when it comes to the phone call. Instead, the emphasis here is placed a little bit more on Anissa as she tries to figure out how to control herself. What is so smart about the structure of Black Lightning right now is that you’ve got stories that represent a couple of different worlds. With Jefferson, you’ve got the experienced superhero veteran; meanwhile, Anissa is still cutting her teeth and learning what comes with that.
