Madam Secretary: What journey will Henry take for the rest of Season 4?
More dangerous situations – In the past we have seen Henry in the line of fire, involved in hostage exchanges and figuring out government conspiracies; to be completely honest, they were his best moments. Not just because they were dramatic, but because it showed Henry as more than just the husband of the Secretary of State. It showed a complex character who’s beliefs and values are tested in his line of work with the government. A theology professor who often has to make decisions regarding others’ lives isn’t easy and this is why we want more of it. Only this time we want the writers to raise the bar with what Henry’s new mission will be.
By raising the bar, the writers have the opportunity to at the same time advance the story forward. As we have mentioned previously, the show feels as though it’s been at a standstill, so if they utilize Henry and his work, it could add to a really great season ending story arc. Now when we say standstill, we mean it in this sense: What is the end game? Most shows have something that they are reaching for by the season’s conclusion and for this show we find it hard to figure out what that is for Henry.
Learning more about his past – We all know the surface level things about Henry before we met him in the pilot episode, but now we want to know what lies underneath. We want to know more because his past impacts the way he behaves and thinks now. For example, we know he was a Marine so why not explore how his time in the service affects the way he works with the government now or whether or not it played a part in why he wanted to get a Ph.D in Theology. We believe these are things that are worth exploring because they could relate to the show’s overall story.
