The Blacklist season 5: Liz Keen and a family reunion
Remember Liz Keen’s biological grandfather Dom? We’ve seen Reddington go to great lengths in the past to keep him separated from Liz, but within this episode the two are (finally) going to have their long-awaited meeting. The photographic proof can be seen of that below, courtesy of Entertainment Weekly.
How will this reunion go? Based on what executive producer Jon Bokenkamp told the website, we’re not looking at a situation here that will be anywhere near what viewers expect:
“In this week’s episode, Liz’s search for Tom’s killer will bring her face to face with her biological grandfather — but it’s not the family reunion one might expect … Truth is, we love Brian Dennehy and this episode gives us a chance to dive deeper into his character’s relationship with Red, and the deeper mythology of the show.”
Getting Dom on the show at this point is essential, but so is Liz finally starting to get a few more answers in regards to the show’s past. We know that Liz is inching ever closer to what Tom was starting to finally figure out, and that’s critical for establishing the endgame of this season — if not the endgame of the entire series. CarterMatt touched on this briefly during our recent TV Lifespans article about the future of the series — one of the most important things that The Blacklist can do at this point is start to resolve some of its memories. This is not a show about just answering those questions, and there are a number of unique story opportunities that are going to come on the other side of them. We just have to get to a point where some of those can be properly explored a little bit more. If Reddington betrays Liz beyond the point of no return, we do think story-wise that there is a lot of interesting ground to touch on in terms of how the two parties go toe to toe from there.
