Madam Secretary season 4: What could be coming up for Elizabeth McCord?

As season 4 of CBS’s Madam Secretary enters its halfway point, we can look back on this season and say it’s been an interesting one. We’ve seen Elizabeth deal with a lot, from losing her trusted chief of staff to going against the President of the United States after a tumor impacted his judgement to lead. She’s been tested so many times by a variety of different situations and, yet, she has continued to stick by her beliefs and values. So when the second half of season 4 premieres, here’s what CarterMatt would like to see from Elizabeth.

Elizabeth as a mother – There have been plenty of moments where we see Elizabeth as the mother of three who she would do just about anything for. The show has done a good job with adding tiny scenes here and there, but now what if we see her and at least one of her kids on opposite sides? Elizabeth has had arguments with them before, but none that has had any significant consequences. By doing this, Elizabeth will be further tested in how well she can balance her personal and professional lives. We’ve seen her deal with arguments with Henry and still do her job, but we feel like it would be an added challenge when it’s your own kids.

Many of us can probably think of time when we fought with our parents and then have it bother us until we resolved the issue. So we can imagine something very similar goes through our parents’ minds. So if we were to see Elizabeth preoccupied, it would be another obstacle to overcome and reveal more of who she is.

Advancing her character – We know that Elizabeth is the Secretary of State and we know she loves her job, but going forward we’d like to see how they can advance her storyline. While we love the show, it sometimes feels like the series is at a standstill where it repeats the same thing over and over. The U.S. gets involved in an international crisis that Elizabeth has to solve while battling everything else in her life. In seasons 1 and 2 this was enough, but not anymore. The show needs a wow factor again or something that keeps fans coming back week after week.

We’ve seen in the ratings that the show isn’t doing nearly as well anymore and is a show that’s on the bubble of a renewal. We’d like to see the show be given a season 5, but we need to move the story forward a bit more.

Now we don’t want to fans to think we hate the show – it’s quite the opposite. We want the show to do well because we know this show has the potential to be something great, but right now we aren’t hurrying the week to get to Sunday. However, we are excited to see the back half of this season and to see what lies ahead.
