How an Emmy campaign could help Outlander season 4

Emmy campaign

Outlander season 4 is premiering, most likely, in early September. Meanwhile, the 2017 Emmys are airing on NBC come Monday, September 17. Why do these two dates matter in relation to each other? It has to do, in part, with something that the Starz series has never had a chance to do in the past.

So what are we speaking about here in particular? It has to do, in part, with using an awards show to spread immediate outreach about a show. When you think back at all of the times in which Outlander was nominated for the Golden Globes, the show wasn’t all that close to airing. The closest that we came was at the end of this past season, when the nominations were announced close to the finale. At that point in the new season, though, it’s very much hard to get new viewers on board.

This time around, though, things are a little bit different for a couple of different reasons.

If Outlander gets any nominations… – They are almost certainly going to be announced before the start of the season! After that, the cast will have basically weeks of promotion and publicity leading up to the premiere. That’s a great thing for mainstream TV audiences to be exposed to. We know that the Golden Globes are a great source of publicity, but the Emmys are still the granddaddy of all major TV awards shows. Getting a nomination is absolutely something that Outlander deserves, and it is really just up to the voters to make that decision. (When we get closer to campaign season, you better believe that we will do whatever we can to help promote the show.)

If Outlander gets a win… – Regardless of if it’s for the show or for series stars Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan, this would be a huge achievement either way. While we know that the series has received copious nominations in various places, one of the things that it’s missed out on over time is the chance to have a star deliver an acceptance speech on live television in front of a broadcast network audience — as mainstream as it gets. Even when Outlander won a whole score of People’s Choice Awards, CBS largely ignored it during the on-air show. (That was frustrating, to say the least.)

the message that we want to get across here is rather simple: Getting Outlander nominations is great recognition for the cast and crew, but it’s also an unprecedented chance to expose viewers to a series that they will certainly love. We still think there are huge demographics within this country who have not heard of the series yet.
