Outlander season 4: Meet the show’s (reported) Andrew MacNeill

Watch the Outlander season 3 premiere

Has Outlander season 4 cast its Andrew MacNeill? It is not officially confirmed as of yet, but the reports that we’re getting from overseas strongly suggest that this is the case.

According to a new report via the Scottish Sun, actor Craig McGinlay is set to appear in season 4 as the character, who plays a small role in the Diana Gabaldon book Drums of Autumn. It’s possible that this role is expanded somewhat for the show; then again, this could be a character who just appears in an episode or two. In the books MacNeill is a plantation owner who is deeply entrenched in the Scottish community in America — he, fittingly, is involved in Jamie and Claire’s story. McGinlay is an up-and-coming actor who has done a variety of short-film roles; one of his most-prominent TV credits to date is an appearance in the History series Knightfall, which is airing its season 1 finale on Wednesday night. (If you love Knightfall, be sure to check back on Tuesday morning for an exclusive CarterMatt interview previewing the finale!)

Even if MacNeill does not show up for an extended period of time, characters like his are still essential for cementing the Scottish presence that exists within the colonies.

We have learned about a number of significant castings when it comes to Outlander season 4. Maria Doyle Kennedy of Orphan Black is set to be the series version of Aunt Jocasta. Meanwhile, Ed Speleers of Downton Abbey fame will be playing Stephen Bonnet. Colin McFarlane, meanwhile, is playing the role of Ulysses. There are many more roles that will likely be announced in the upcoming weeks and months ahead. Outlander, (at least at present) still has more than half of the season to go in terms of filming. With that, we’re almost sure that there are going to be some other announcements insofar as casting goes.

We’re in another new week of production for the show right now, but we don’t have too much more to share when it comes to filming. The series has filmed in a number of public parks, which has enabled in turn more opportunities for fans of the show to see and, on occasion, meet some of the actors.

Outlander season 4 will premiere on Starz later this year.
