Supergirl season 3: Is there hope for Karamel after ‘Both Sides Now’?

Kara and Mon-El

Mrs. Carter: Do Karamel ‘shippers have something more to hope for when it comes to Supergirl season 3?

Judging from Monday night’s new episode “Both Sides Now,” it’s starting to actually look like Kara and Mon-El, (pictured above during happier times in the first season) could actually find a way to come back to each other. During a conversation with J’onn, Mon-El confessed that he had originally married Imra as a way to bring people together in the future — it wasn’t entirely out of love, which he still had for Kara. Over time, he began to have deeper feelings for her, but still it didn’t quite compare to the relationship that he had back within his own timeline.

Ultimately, this is why Mon-El had so much anxiety surrounding being near Kara — it brought back his feelings. That was also a reason for some of the mounting tension that existed between himself and his wife.

Do we foresee Karamel becoming a couple again when the series returns later this year? Not necessarily right away, but the seeds do seem to have been sewn for some sort of reunion between the characters. In the closing minutes Mon-El admitted to Imra that he didn’t know whether or not he was still in love with Kara — in the process of that, she also revealed something else important: She’d been keeping a secret from him as to why the Legion was really in this current era. Maybe a part of it had to do with helping to stop Reign, but that wasn’t the only reason. Knowing how Mon-El is already on the fence when it comes to some of his feelings, it’s very well possible that this is the thing that causes the key to turn and for him to lean more towards Kara again. Part of the other issue here could depend heavily on how heavy and devastating Imra’s secret is.

So long as Mon-El is around on Supergirl, the one thing that we know for sure is this: There’s always going to be a chance of a reunion. With this much history and feelings between the two, that’s not going to change because of just present circumstances.
