Following tonight’s season 1 finale on CBS, is there a chance that a 9JKL season 2 renewal could actually happen? The network hasn’t made anything official just yet, but it is definitely worth CarterMatt taking a closer look for you.
At the start of the season, we would say that the comedy series starring Mark Feuerstein got off to a solid start. After all, the series generated a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic straight from the jump. We knew that Feuerstein had plenty of fans from Royal Pains, so we were interested in seeing if that, coupled with a solid support base for old-school sitcoms, would be enough to give this show some solid ratings momentum.
As it turns out, however, the momentum has slowly went the other way over the past several episodes. At the moment, 9JKL season 1 is averaging in total 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is on the low side of things for CBS comedies. Couple that with the show not getting a full-season order and some of the reviews that it’s received, we unfortunately cannot say that we are super-optimistic when it comes to the future of the show.
What can you do if you want to see it renewed? Make your voice heard! Tweet to CBS to tell them that you love the show and that you’ll keep watching; also, be sure to tell all of your friends to do the same. Watch old episodes on CBS All Access and show the network that they can make advertising revenue off of you. TV can at times be a fairly unsympathetic business since so much of it can be all about pure dollars and cents sometimes. You have to appeal to network sentiments.
If you did love the first season, another reason to want a 9JKL season 2 is simply because most comedies only tend to improve through the first couple of years as the cast finds a little bit more chemistry with one another and everyone gets more comfortable in their roles. For many of the comedies that we’ve loved a lot over the years, the second season ends up being our favorite season, like with The Office.
