Bughead voted most-popular Riverdale ‘ship by narrow margin
We anticipated that this would be a fairly-close vote given that there are SO many different ‘ships across the show for readers to choose from, and that proved to be the case. There was just a couple of percentage points between the first and second place vote-getters, but in the end the ‘ship that we anticipated winning from the start was the one who took the title.
We’re speaking here, of course, about the pairing of Betty Cooper and Jughead Jones otherwise known as Bughead. With about 26% of the vote that was enough for them to reign supreme on this particular poll, and we hope that this inspires the writers to move things into the best direction possible for these characters. Then again, that’s something that they should have really gotten the memo on well before the start of this season.
Back when Riverdale was in development, we had questions aplenty surrounding what the Jughead character was going to be like on the show, given that he does have a very specific personality and perspective within the comics. They have managed to keep some of that, but also made this aloof guy into someone capable of so much more. He does have some inner darkness, but he also has a big heart underneath. With Betty, her heart has always been a little more explicit; nonetheless, she also has her own fair share of family challenges and feelings that she also has to shift through (and we haven’t even mentioned Dark Betty!). We have a feeling that the Betty / Jughead dynamic is one that is never going to completely go away on this series.
Ironically, one of the other most-popular ‘ships in the Riverdale poll this year was with FP and Alice — Jughead and Betty’s parents.
