Chicago Med season 3 episode 9 sneak peek: Connor faces tough medical challenge

Chicago Med season 3

NBC has released a sneak peek for Chicago Med season 3 episode 9 and it’s certainly an interesting one. The sneak peek that CarterMatt has for you below features Dr. Connor Rhodes, Dr. Ava Bekker, and Dr. Isidore Latham as they are about to operate on a world-renowned surgeon and Dr. Bekker’s mentor. What seems like a surgery the team can handle quickly turns into one that will be their most challenging case yet.

Dr. Bekker’s mentor requested that he be awake for his surgery where the team will remove a tumor from under his lung. This immediately takes the three doctors by surprise, however, the mood changes when the patient suggests it be “off pump.” This realization brings Dr. Bekker and Dr. Latham to his side, but Connor is still unconvinced even though he is outnumbered.

What makes us excited for this episode is that it won’t just be medically challenging, but it will be mentally challenging too for both Connor and Dr. Bekker. Obviously he is against this course of treatment and believes it to be too risky, however, in the face of a world-renowned surgeon neither Dr. Bekker or Dr. Latham wants to be the one to say no. Dr. Bekker, especially, appeared to be taken aback and unsure of this course, but again she wouldn’t say no to the man who taught her everything she knows.

If the procedure goes smoothly it will be one that Connor will have to face that he was wrong about, but if the procedure goes sideways how will this affect Dr. Bekker? After she looked a little unsure, she could feel guilty for not having said something and thus proving the student hasn’t become teacher. On the other hand, she could convince herself that she was just following orders from her superior like every time before. For Connor, if it goes sideways he will be the first one to admit he was right, but he could keep that to himself since he and Dr. Bekker’s feud has settled down since they found a rhythm that works between them.

Overall, no matter how this plays out it will certainly test the doctors. If it goes smoothly or sideways there is room for some great storytelling and that’s all that really matters.
