Supergirl season 3 spoilers: Who is Pestilence? Another Worldkiller may be coming

Monday night’s new episode of Supergirl is an essential one for the future of the series — that much is a hundred percent clear. After all, what transpires over the course of this installment is going to be key to furthering Reign’s story. Beyond that, it’s also the last new episode until the show returns from an extended hiatus a little bit later in the spring. There are obviously many different things that will need to be addressed.

One of them, (of course) is going to be other Worldkillers. We already have Reign, we’re getting a better sense of Purity tonight, and judging from what star Odette Annable told Entertainment Weekly, there is also a third one coming in Pestilence. When this person turns up, the three of them could form an almost-unstoppable trio bent on destroying this world once and for all. Reign has already done a pretty good job even without any help, and it was only recently that anyone was able to defeat her.

As powerful as Reign may be physically, there is also a very emotional story coming up tonight for the character’s alter ego. Samantha doesn’t know what is wrong with her, and Annable teases that this puts her in a very raw, emotional space as she struggles to get answers:

“Sam, at this point in her journey, I think she’s really, really desperate. She is desperate to find out what’s going on with her. She’s finally coming to terms that there is something going on, and her main goal is to protect her daughter and make sure that relationship is okay and make sure Ruby is okay. So, needless to say, I think Sam is pretty fearful right now.”

By the end of this Supergirl episode Monday night CarterMatt would not be shocked if Samantha were to learn the truth about Reign living within her — if that happens, the results of it could be heart-wrenching. Would someone like Samantha try to sacrifice herself if it meant stopping Reign, or would she be too fearful of that because of her daughter Ruby? There are questions that need to be pondered there and we’re sure that they will be … at least in time. As some of the other characters potentially start to learn who Reign really is (we’re at least hoping in time that they do), there may be some questions that they start to pose.
