Super Bowl LII: Leslie Odom Jr. performs ‘America the Beautiful’
Leslie Odom Jr. has become a household name over the past few years thanks to Broadway; today, he performed “America the Beautiful” at Super Bowl LII accompanied by a choir.
While we know that there are going to be some bid, bawdy, and huge performances that take place over the course of the next several hours, what made this one so impactful was that it was, for the most part, simple and poignant. Odom allowed the children in the choir to shine. Also, there weren’t too many frills and changes to a song that is already great in its own right.
If you love Leslie’s music, there is a good chance that you enjoyed this performance. The one thing that did surprise us? Just how short it was. He came out, and right as soon as the choir started to sing it ended. We do know that there are other things that the Super Bowl has to get to, but we still didn’t anticipate things moving along this quickly.
Ultimately, though, hopefully this performance gives Leslie more of a spotlight in the future. Obviously, we’d love to see albums and more from him coming up — fingers crossed that this was just another stepping stone for him.
This performance, at the end, led into a performance of “The Star-Spangled Banner” from Pink.
