McMafia episode 7: The buildup for the final battle
It was about ten minutes out from the end of Sunday night’s episode when Rebecca finally revealed the truth the truth to him — she forgives him for some things, but not for her losing her unborn child. He didn’t know about that, and of course was understandably upset it was kept from him. (Still, if you were in Rebecca’s position after everything that has happened, can you really blame her?)
It was in the aftermath of this confession that we were just sitting idly by, watching this story slowly build towards what was almost sure to be an enormous, devastating conclusion. There was plenty of drama that would be coming, but it also seemed as though we were on the cusp of a shootout. Near the end, and in the dark, this took place. Even before this, it was already clear that this business would have some severe consequences.
And, for the second straight week, we had a pivotal shooting in the closing minutes. Natasha was shot. Is she dead? It’s not looking altogether good for her at the moment.
Meanwhile, Alex prepared himself to take a trip to Russia, where it appears as though there is going to be a battle of the ages. At this point, we’re starting to think that he may instantaneously transform into Liam Neeson to start kicking butt and taking names.
We’ll admit that for us, McMafia is most interesting when it is a story about a man’s downfall. There are so many series out there that can craft a narrative that features elaborate action and violence; it’s a little bit different when you have characters you are invested in alongside fantastic performances. How good is James Norton? After Grantchester we knew that he would be in demand — his performance in McMafia proves why.
