Absentia season 2: Five things we want to see
For now, what we thought we’d share are five different plot threads that it could be interesting for the writers/producers to explore. Remember this: There are spoilers ahead for all of season 1! You can go back and read our individual reviews if you want to see some of them before diving in here.
1. The future of Nick’s family – Even though Nick seemed to recommit to his relationship with Alice and she seemed to be on the road to forgiving him near the end of season 1, that does not make things necessarily better when season 2 starts. They’ve likely got a lot of therapy ahead, and they also have to figure out how a now-innocent Emily Byrne fits in to their family dynamic.
2. The Tommy story – For starters, we sensed a little bit of possibly Tommy / Emily chemistry at the end of season 1. There could be some fun that comes in exploring this, and beyond that we just want to know a little bit more about his backstory. We know from season 1 mostly that he’s good at his job and doesn’t always trust the FBI.
3. A new adversary – We’ve moved past seemingly some of the demons of season 1; with that, why not introduce a new threat in season 2? Given some of Emily’s trauma this could throw her past back into the forefront, even if this new character has nothing to do with it.
4. A decision with Emily and the FBI – While it would be cool to see her get her gun and badge back, we almost think that after watching this season, it would be equally interesting to see her out as a lone wolf, doing what she can in order to solve crimes on her own with occasional help here and there.
5. Answers on the cliffhanger – What do Emily’s memories mean, and how much was Emily in control of what she did with the drowning? We still believe that is capable of going out of her mind with the right triggers, and this sets her up as a significant (and terrifying) threat moving forward.
