Super Bowl commercials 2018: Amazon, Gordon Ramsay, Cardi B in Alexa ad
With this particular ad, we’re talking about a frequent Super Bowl commercial buyer in Amazon, which often likes to use the big game in order to show off some of their latest technology. They are doing that today by hyping up Alexa, their popular personal assistant.
The premise -It’s pretty self-explanatory — Alexa loses her voice, and with that Amazon calls on a number of famous people to try to fill the void. The results here are fairly ridiculous as we see Gordon Ramsay, Cardi B, Rebel Wilson, and others attempt to mimic Alexa with varying results.
Brand recognition – Given that Amazon is widely considered to be one of the biggest brands in the world, we knew that they would have some branding all over this commercial. That definitely turned out to be the case. Amazon was everywhere in here and Alexa is recognizable in its own right.

Creativity – We love the use of celebrity, especially since they went out and got a number of stars with very distinct voices. Things are always going to be memorable when Gordon Ramsay is around — beyond just that, there’s a lot of great humor here. You need an ad like this to be memorable, but you do also need for it to be funny.
Our overall grade – B+. While it’s not a classic (we never rolled out of our chair laughing), this is a very smart, intuitive ad for Amazon that makes use of celebrity and doesn’t shy away from highlighting their product in every way possible. Well done overall.
