Aidan Turner expects Poldark season 5 renewal at some point soon
In a new interview with the Radio Times, the actor behind Ross made it abundantly clear that there is a great deal of hope that the fifth-season order will be coming up in the near future. He doesn’t know all that much about the series’ future beyond that, but he’s confident that this renewal is going to be more or less a sure thing:
“Definitely we’re going to do season five, we’re going to shoot the fifth one. After that, I don’t know … We’ll have to see how it all goes, but definitely for five. It’s kind of one step at a time.”
In the past, we know that Turner has suggested that the fifth season of Poldark could be the end of the road and we know that this is a contentious subject among many. In theory, there could be enough material from the books left over to do another season beyond season 5, but there could be a lot of different components that go into just how long the series wants to air. For one, there’s the subject of how the source material is condensed, how many episodes there are per season, and also what some of the cast and crew want to do with some of their futures. We would imagine that at a certain point, there is a desire for some to move onto other things. That’s not disrespectful of the show by any means, but there is something very nomadic about being an actor where you wander to different projects. Many actors out there really enjoy this part of the lifestyle since it remains challenging.
One of the ideas that we would ponder over is potentially doing a shortened fifth and sixth season of Poldark to keep the series on longer and maybe cover more ground from the books. For us, we’d be fine to have a seven-episode season 5 followed by a six-episode season 6, as opposed to doing a fifth season that ran for nine or ten episodes. This is somewhat-similar to what Game of Thrones is doing for its own final season, or also what Mad Men and Breaking Bad did for their final years on the air. (Granted, in those two cases they designated their final batches of episodes as just one season, even if they aired over two years.)
