Top Chef: Last Chance Kitchen episode 10: Taco Thursday
The theme of this particular cook-off was pretty simple — tacos. (Yes, we know taco Tuesday is the expression, but we’re writing this on a Thursday.) This was an interesting challenge since it wasn’t just about making the best taco — it was about making a lot of great taco combinations. Tom Colicchio (who was particularly salty during the elimination challenge tonight) wasn’t going to try everything. He would pick the taco he wanted and just go with that.
Oh, and there was Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning involved because product placement.
Basically, all of the food looked delicious, which it really should given that we’re getting near the end of the competition at this point. You have to take risks and in their own way, all of them did. Brother is the only person who made something even close to resembling normal tacos — Fatima embraced more of her Pakistani roots, while Joe opted instead to go with some Korean flavors after working for years at a Korean restaurant.

Who advanced?
Joe was the Tom’s favorite tonight; this was the most complete of the three dishes, even if it was also apparently the one that was the biggest overall challenge for him to eat. Brother managed to score second place, and this marked the end of the road for Fatima.
Do we still think that it was the wrong move to send her home tonight in the episode? Absolutely we do since there was almost zero evidence that she cooked the worst dish of the group. Yet, at the same exact time this was a good send-off for her — we don’t think the exit was controversial and she got to leave on a dish that was largely well-received. We wish Fatima nothing but the best as she continues to battle cancer in the real world.
