Chicago PD season 5 episode 14 preview: Taking a knee turns deadly

Chicago PD season 5 episode 14 is the last installment of the NBC show airing before the Winter Olympics, and this one looks to be very topical. After all, at the center of a case is a protest movement that has become a hot-button issue in most of the country over the past year and a half: Athletes taking a knee in protest of police brutality.

INTELLIGENCE INVESTIGATES THE DEATH OF A COLLEGE ATHLETE KILLED AFTER KNEELING IN PROTEST. When a basketball star is found murdered after an anti-police rally, Intelligence navigates a politically charged environment to track down the killer. To complicate matters further, Woods’ (guest star Mykelti Williamson) daughter Brianna (guest star Alexa Adderley) is tangled up in the case. Starring Jason Beghe, Jon Seda, Jesse Lee Soffer, Patrick John Flueger, Elias Koteas, Marina Squerciati, LaRoyce Hawkins, Amy Morton and Tracy Spiridakos. Also guest starring Barton Fitzpatrick, Johnny Ray Gill and Ola Osundairo.

Will this episode actually depict this athlete kneeling during the National Anthem? That’s a risky proposition for this show. While it may be true to some of the protests going on in real life, Chicago PD taking a strong political stand one way or another is risky given that there are viewers who check out the show from all walks of life. We applaud them for having the bravery to take on the subject, but they’re definitely walking a tightrope with the story.

Beyond just the mere facts of the case, it does remain fairly interesting that Woods is going to find himself involved here in a way that is so personal. This could be viewed as one of the first real opportunities for Intelligence to get the leg up on Woods, someone who has spent most of the season trying to take the unit down. The problem here is that in order to make a move on him a young woman could get caught in the crossfire.
