Chicago PD season 5 video: Voight, Lindsay’s past comes to light

Hank Voight

Remember what happened to Justin’s killer on Chicago PDand how both Voight and Lindsay were responsible in part for getting rid of the body? This has long been a loose end on the series but come Wednesday night, this said loose end is coming back.

In the new sneak peek below from Wednesday night’s “Chasing Monsters,” Denny Woods arrives to Voight with what is bad news disguised intentionally as good news: The body of Justin’s killer was found while a construction crew was working. As a result of that, Woods is bringing in some of the best people to “clear Voight’s name” and ensure that he had nothing to do with what happened to him. It doesn’t take a detective here to know what is actually going on — Woods wants to find some way to prove Hank is guilty. If he can get some of Voight’s DNA from the scene, that could mean the end of his career in law enforcement.

There is an obvious elephant in the room that needs to be addressed here, and it relates to how this story can be told without Sophia Bush around. Unless she is willing to make some sort of shock appearance as the Lindsay character, we don’t foresee that happening now or ever. She made it clear how unhappy she was being a part of the show; with that, we don’t see her returning. An easy way to write her out of this storyline could just be A) Lindsay doing a good job making sure her DNA wasn’t at the scene or B) Voight taking more of the blame to protect her and the new job that she has at the New York division of the FBI.

Personally, we wouldn’t actually mind if Voight sweats this one out for a little while, or even suffers some significant consequences for what he’s done. We’ve progressively had more of a problem over time with this show being about police reform this season while you’ve got a clear murderer and vigilante leading the way. Either he has to change or he has to go, and it may very well be too late given that he doesn’t just get a clean slate given everything that he has done.

What do you think should happen to Voight?
