Did The Brave finale ratings help to improve season 2 odds?
While we know there were a number of programs on the air Monday night, The Brave finale ratings are clearly of the most interest — and for good reason, given that there is no confirmation as of yet as to whether or not the series will return for a season 2.
Here’s the good news – in total viewers, the series managed to improve from its most-recent outing to finish closer to 4 million on the night. Meanwhile, in the 18-49 demographic The Brave drew the same 0.7 rating as the week before. These numbers are solid in comparison to recent outings with the series, but there is one thing that you should note: There was no episode of The Good Doctor on last night. With lesser competition (the only other show out there was Scorpion, which drew a 0.9), you can make a pretty good case that the ratings for The Brave really should have pushed more in a different direction and that this is something that NBC really should have been hoping for.
In the end, we don’t think NBC makes a firm decision until they see how the rest of their schedule fares. They’ve probably got a good sense of most of their series airing at present, but they still have Timeless season 2 on the pipeline alongside Good Girls, which is taking the place of The Brave coming up. Shades of Blue is also still dangling out there. With Chicago Med improving we would argue that the only bubble shows NBC has at the moment are The Brave, Blindspot, and Taken — the latter is clearly the one in the most danger but we wouldn’t be shocked if two of the three end up getting canceled by the time we get around to the end of May.
In getting back to Scorpion for a second…
Fans should feel pretty good about the fact that the CBS series posted one of its better ratings in a while, and also that the show is entering syndication. We do think it’s got a reasonably good shot at a renewal, even though its ratings are far from great.
