The Brave: Explosive season finale leaves fans with a sad cliffhanger
NBC’s The Brave premiered on Monday its season 1 finale and it didn’t disappoint. The episode picked up where last week’s ended with Patricia coming face to face with an old colleague, Alex Hoffman.
Her job was to extract information from him that could save the life of a young girl with unbelievable hacking skills as she took control of a U.S. submarine with military weapons. However, Hoffman was stubborn and only agreed to help after Patricia appealed to his ego. Unfortunately, Hoffman didn’t want to help just because it was the right thing to do. This moment was a little shocking for us because it seemed too easy. She got the rendezvous out of him so Dalton’s team could tag Hoffman’s associate in order to locate the girl. Again, we loved that the team was moving along, but it seemed too easy a payoff.
After this, things got complicated. The team learned that the young girl was ordered to hack into another submarine, only this time the ship was headed for Chinese waters in which at that point, the ship would fall into enemy hands. We loved this twist because it made everything more high risk and put us on the edge of our seats as we watched the clock tick down.
As the team successfully rescued the girl, she was able to help the team back in DC give control of the submarine back to its captain. Just when you thought the episode was going to end on a light note you were wrong. As the team headed back to base, Preach and Patricia stayed back with Hoffman. He watched as Preach and Patricia avoided the worst and then began a monologue about how he felt betrayed by Patricia and how he would never forgive. His speech ended with him telling Patricia that she left him die and now it was her turn. He flipped over a table with a bomb he implanted in his cell phone. Preach dived for it, but ended up paying the price as he and Patricia were caught in the explosion. Patricia had minor injuries, but Preach was left in a coma.
Now we did not expect this. We knew someone was going to get caught in the crossfires, but we did not guess that it would be Preach. That is what was great about this episode. It was unexpected and it certainly keeps us guessing. Overall, we hope this show gets renewed because tonight’s finale left room to develop more stories while keeping us entertained in the process. We have to know if Preach will be okay!
