Vikings season 6: Filming for Katheryn Winnick-directed episode begins!

Katheryn Winnick's Lagertha

For all Katheryn Winnick fans, we come with news that should bring a smile to your face: Today marked her first day filming as director for Vikings season 6!

In a post on Twitter earlier this afternoon (or technically, evening over where the series shoots in Ireland), Winnick posted photographic evidence that she is now shooting her episode. Filming is going to continue in the weeks to come, and even once it is completed there is still some other work still to come. There is editing, mixing, and other important facets of post-production that you have to go through in order to ensure that work is complete.

This is an exciting time to be a Vikings and a Winnick fan, given that this episode marks an opportunity to see her do something that she has not had a chance to do before. It is, however, set so far in the future for the series that it’s hard to know just what this episode is going to be about. For example, will a key component to it be the struggle between Ivar and Lagertha, or the aftermath of whatever Rollo is coming to do? Where does Heahmund fit in to all of this? These are the things that we are thinking about at the moment, but come the end of season 5 it’s possible that some of these pieces are taken off of the metaphorical chessboard.

At this point, we just hope Lagertha is still alive entering season 6.

You are still going to be waiting for a while in order to see Vikings season 6 on the air. There’s no announced premiere date over on History, and to go along with that there are still ten more episodes to go this season before we get around to the end. At the earliest, we anticipate season 6 will premiere later this fall — but it could end up being later than that.

Rest assured that once there is some more news out there on Winnick’s Vikings episode, we will have it for you here.
