What are the best SVU ‘ships of all time? Barson, Bensler, Barisi, and more

SVU season 19 episode 2

Mrs. Carter: What are some of the best Law & Order: SVU ‘ships of all time?

We do think that there is a fairly interesting dichotomy when it comes to the NBC – Mariska Hargitay series between the amount that viewers talk and speculate over romance to the amount of time it’s actually focused on during the episodes. We’re not advocating for a change in that structure. SVU remains first and foremost a show about the crimes, the victims, and the heroes who stop at nothing for justice.

Yet, at the same time we do like the little undercurrents of romance and fun character interactions on this show and that is, at its core, what this article is all about: Celebrating character pairings and some of the fandoms that support them! If you look below, we’ve got for you what we (and many fans) consider to be some of the most-popular ‘ships from the series’ history. At the end of the article there is a poll where you can state your favorite. We’ll keep voting open here from now until Saturday, February 3 at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time (1:00 p.m. Pacific).

One last thing: If you are on mobile and are having trouble voting, be sure to click to view the non-AMP version at the bottom of the page.

Barba & Carisi – In terms of SVU-related fanfiction this is the most-popular pairing out there and there are tons of fans that tune in for them. “Barisi” has an intensely loyal following who cherishes their every interaction. Even when their story on the show together is limited, it is nonetheless very much appreciated and a wonderful pairing to get behind.

Benson & Barba – The pairing otherwise known as “Barson” has become increasingly popular ever since Raúl Esparza first came onto the show. As of late, it’s also felt as though there were many moments intentionally planted into the episodes, including Barba inviting Olivia to dinner.

Benson & Cabot – Another pairing that is intensely popular. They had a fantastic working relationship, but unfortunately Cabot is a character we just don’t see much of on SVU these days and haven’t for years. We know that her history in witness protection makes that difficult, but still.

Benson & Stabler – This is one of the original ‘ships that started it all. There’s no doubt that these two characters had an exceptional working relationship, and it’s with that in mind that it makes sense there is such a contingent who wanted to see it become a permanent romantic relationship. No matter the context, it would be great to see SVU back on the show.

Rollins & Carisi – There have been times over the past couple of years where we actually thought that “Rollisi” was going to turn into a canon romantic relationship on SVU. That hasn’t quite happened, but we do think that they have a relationship that is passionate, supportive, and certainly also fun.
