Isidora Goreshter leaving Shameless as Svetlana after six years

For those who were not aware, there is some bad news that is unfolding in the wake of Sunday night’s Shameless season 8 finale: Isidora Goreshter is leaving the show behind.

The actress, who has played Svetlana on the series for the majority of its run, made the news clear in a post on Instagram. Here is just a small portion of what she had to say:

“All good things must come to an end. 6 years ago, what should have only been one days work changed my life forever. A huge thank you John Wells and Shameless for what turned out to be the most unexpected and life altering job an actor could ask for. I am forever indebted to you for your belief in me.

“Words cannot express the love and admiration i have for these people. Being able to work along side legends and learning from them has been nothing short of a blessing. This cast truly is something special and nowhere in this industry have i found a more loving and supportive group of actors. This role has pushed me mentally, emotionally and physically and i couldn’t have done it without each and every actor, writer and crew member. And the fans – my god are you a passionate bunch. And i f—ing love you. If it weren’t for you lot there would be no shameless. Even though my time on this show has come to an end, i can’t wait to share all of the amazing things coming up in the future with you all.”

Obviously, Shameless will go on, and it’s certainly possible that there will be some other exciting characters who are introduced. There definitely does need to be some sort of new energy or dramatic twist coming after season 8 started to peter off near the end. It felt like there needed to be something more from the finale than what we received, and that is what is leaving some fans a little bit frustrated today. However, none of that is Isidora Goreshter’s fault. She did a great job with the character and will be missed moving forward.
