Outlander notes: David Berry, Tobias Menzies, Sophie Skelton highlights

Outlander notes

Who’s ready for a nice little dose of Outlander notes on this fine Saturday? It’s the afternoon here, so we’re typing out this edition with a lovely unset in the background.

Convention appearances Did you see our recent piece regarding Outlander conventions? Take a look at that link to see some of the confirmed dates that we have; here, we can add a few more performers to the list!

First, the Outlander Convention happening in New Jersey this August has just added both Tobias Menzies and David Berry, just in case you wanted a double-dose of awesomeness there. This convention is also offering up a wide array of photo ops, so you may get a chance to take some photos here that you would not have an opportunity to get at any other convention under the sun. This convention’s got an impressive list of attendees — in addition to the two names mentioned above, you’ve also got Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe, Graham McTavish, and Steven Cree all appearing … at least for now. Remember that this is all subject to change.

Meanwhile, Richard Rankin has now been confirmed to be appearing at The Highlanders 3 (also in August) in Birmingham alongside Berry, Menzies, and Balfe. There are at least two more names set to be confirmed here but announcements could be forthcoming. You can get more information over here.

If you’re going to any convention featuring the show later this year, have a great time! The reason that most of these conventions are in the summer is to accommodate the cast’s busy shooting schedule on the series. Season 4 should wrap in late spring / early summer. As for season 5 filming, that depends largely on when the renewal comes in so that the writers can get started on the adaptation.

Happy (early) casting anniversary to Sophie Skelton! – We posted a casting anniversary piece for Skelton last year, so it only feels appropriate to say congratulations once more! We’re a day early, but on January 28, 2016 Skelton was first announced to be playing Brianna on Outlander season 2. “Dragonfly in Amber” probably remains our favorite episode of the show — we got to meet Roger and Brianna for the first time, and that episode in particular just feels like an epic movie all its own. It was a great introduction to Brianna, one that carried over effectively to season 3.

Hopefully there’s some great stuff coming for Brianna in season 4! Even if you aren’t familiar with the books, it’s not too much of a spoiler to say that there is a lot of material coming for the character.
