Grey’s Anatomy season 14 debate: Could Miranda Bailey actually die?
In this promo (which you can see over here), signs point to Bailey suffering some sort of heart attack. This is far from the first time in which Grey’s Anatomy has done one of those episodes in which the doctor ends up becoming the patient — it’s happening many times over the course of the past several years. There are obviously some cases (see, Derek in “How to Save a Life”) where the doctor does end up dying. However, we’ve also seen the opposite on some occasions as well.
In the case of Bailey, there’s one clear opinion that we’ve got: Killing her off now would almost feel like story robbery. One thing we’ve learned about Shondaland over the years is that they tend to be story-focused. They go with what seems to be the most interesting narrative. While killing off Bailey would give Chandra Wilson great material for an episode, almost killing her off is the same thing — plus, it gives her so much more story to tell in the weeks to come.

The obvious reason to keep Bailey alive, other than that Wilson is amazing and we don’t want to see her depart the series, is really so simply as just our desire to see what happens when Bailey and Ben are on two different shows. There’s a chance here to see some really interesting drama with the two of them as they try to figure out what their future holds and if they can balance this new and very-crazy life. As a viewer, this is the sort of material you really year for.
Ultimately, we’ll find out all of the answers soon enough, given that we don’t think that this is a story that ABC or the show’s producers are going to want to stretch out longer than a week or two.
