The 100 season 5 filming wraps; is it the end?

The 100 season 5 filming

The 100 season 5 filming is officially said and done.

In a new post on Twitter, show executive producer Jason Rothenberg confirmed on Saturday that today is the final day of production — this is obviously a chance for gratitude and reflection, and it’s also a chance for every paranoid fan to speculate on whatever sort of devastating cliffhanger the writers are going to leave us on.

Will The 100 season 5 finale be the final episode of the series? We certainly hope not, and there have been overtures from Rothenberg and others over the years that this is not the last episode they would like to make. There’s hope for a season 6 at some point down the line, but there are definitely a few different things that have to go the show’s way in order for that to happen. The ratings need to be consistent with what the series had before, the quality needs to be there, and there needs to be a spot in a very-crowded network schedule. As it is The 100 is only partially airing during the season; a good chunk of it is airing in the summer. (By the way, we blame The CW’s questionable decision to give Dynasty a full-season order in part for this.)

Unfortunately, we don’t believe that The CW is going to be doing a whole lot in the near future to solidify the show’s future. This may not be something we get more confirmation on until at some point in May. Do we think that The 100 is probably nearing the end of its run? Sure, but there could be another year or two after this one if everything works out the way that we’d like for it to. Above all else, this is a show that fans deserve to have a worthy ending to; what gives us hope that said ending will come is that The CW does have a history of giving its long-running series worthy conclusions. Look at what they’ve done with The Originals, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, and others over the years. Even with shows like 90210 and Hart of Dixie that were canceled more in-season, they at least offered up some indication quickly enough that they were ending to piece something together.
