S.H.I.E.L.D. has one final chance to return to our timeline, but their actions may have deadly consequences.
What makes this entire episode interesting mostly has to deal with the subject of victory, but at what cost. By that, we specifically mean that even though SHIELD may be able to get precisely what they want to out of their mission, there could still be consequences that come along with that. There is no guarantee that they can just start back in the present in the same way that they once were. We could lose an important character before that happens.
Regardless, we do need to continue to give the Agents of SHIELD writers all the credit in the world for being as brave as they were in tackling this space arc and doing something that is far and away different than any other that we’ve seen on the show to date. They keep finding a way to reinvent this show, which is critical for a superhero property so many years in its run. There are certainly many other shows in this genre that have failed to capture the magic of the early seasons as they’ve went further down the road. With this series, however, what we’re seeing is mostly the opposite. It continues to get better and better.
