Daredevil season 3 spoilers: Are we meeting Matt’s mother?
All signs are pointing towards Matt’s mother coming on board Daredevil season 3, and it’s a rather prestigious actor taking on the part.
Per Deadline, Wolf Hall alum Joanne Whalley is going to be appearing on the Netflix series’ upcoming batch of episodes, and it looks as though she will be playing Sister Maggie. This was a character hinted at in the closing minutes of The Defenders, and her significance to Matt Murdock is very important. After all, Maggie is Matt’s mother, so that is going to throw some interesting curveballs into the mix. You can see how some of their relationship plays out, and what it means for Matt to have her in his life.
In so many ways we consider Daredevil season 3 to be a bit of a rest and a return to form for the character, and as a result of that it does make some sense to bring someone in to touch a little bit more on the past. We know that in terms of bad guys, we are getting that already in the form of more Wilson Fisk. The notorious Big Bad is going to have a much more substantial role in season 3 than he had in season 2 and if you’ve been a long time reader of CarterMatt then you know that we couldn’t be happier about this since we think that Wilson Fisk is one of the greatest villains out there.
In general, we would argue that Daredevil season 3 needs a tremendous spark to try and recover from what was a somewhat polarizing season 2. The series may have delivered on a few big surprises, but at the same time it also left a few things to be desired elsewhere when it comes to cohesive storytelling. It tried to do a little too much and we probably didn’t need anywhere near as much Elektra as we ended up getting. This season is also coming up after The Defenders which was also met with fairly mixed reviews. The Marvel – Netflix shows at one point had a tremendous amount of buzz on their side, and we’re getting to the point now where they need to figure out how to get some of this back.
