Supernatural season 13: When will Scooby-Doo episode end up airing?
In a new post on Twitter, Jim Michaels confirmed that the upcoming sixteenth episode of season 13, at least in terms of production (which could air as early as March), is entitled “Scoobynatural.” It obviously goes without saying that this is going to be the Scooby-Doo episode where Sam and Dean somehow collide with the Mystery Machine.
Why do this episode? This is Supernatural, and it’s a show that really does celebrate the weird and wonderful in a way few other shows do. Scooby-Doo is in some ways Supernatural before it even existed, at least in that you have some characters driving around in an iconic vehicle while battling all sorts of monsters and creepy characters. The only real difference here is that, (at least in the early going) the majority of the monsters that the Mystery Machine gang fought were really just creepy people in masks. We personally prefer that version of Scooby-Doo to some of the ones that existed in the later seasons / the movies where the villains actually were monsters. The less we say about that first live-action movie with Sarah Michelle Gellar, the better.
Supernatural season 13 has already taken on all sorts of interesting material this season, from alternate realities to of course the Wayward Sisters potential spin-off. For now, though, we’re looking forward to getting back to some of this show’s central mythology at the end of the season. There’s a good analogy to make here with Arrow, which spent a little bit of time helping to establish the Arrowverse before diving back into its own material. Supernatural needs to focus more on Sam and Dean at the end of the season without some of the extra frills.
