The Walking Dead season 8 episode 9 run time extended for Carl’s death
According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming episode featuring Carl’s death is going to run for a grand total of 82 minutes. That’s a good bit longer than the standard 60 minutes that a typical episode is supposed to run … not that The Walking Dead actually does that on a regular basis. This is a series that, for whatever reason, often chooses to flutter around its run times — often for reasons unknown since this is a show that is often bloated.
On this occasion, it actually makes a little bit more sense for the writers to want to extend the show given that you are dealing with one of the most-important character deaths on the entire series, and also one of the most controversial. We know that there are many people out there whoa re not happy about the death of Carl and have voiced that displeasure to anyone and everyone that will listen. Even Chandler Riggs’ family and some members of the cast have made it clear that they don’t live the twist. We personally feel like much of the story of this show has been the journey of Carl from this boy into a man and capable leader of a group in the zombie apocalypse. He understood that sometimes you have to be violent and do the wrong thing but, in the end, goodness still prevailed and there was a way to still have hope for a better future.
Now, much of that hope is shot, and the series has to find a way to effectively sell this twist while also looking towards its own future. That is not a particularly easy thing to achieve.
