Should Daniel Dae Kim appear on The Good Doctor?

Good Doctor episode 2 ratingsThe Good Doctor has been a hit for ABC from the very beginning, and one of the people who you have to thank the most for the series success is none other than Daniel Dae Kim. It is the former Lost and Hawaii Five-0 actor who believed in the series from the very beginning after seeing the Korean version; following that, he worked tirelessly in order to eventually find it a network home and a showrunner with the talent of a David Shore.

Now that he’s managed to make The Good Doctor a success, is it time for him to appear on on the show? Given that he is an executive producer and he has plenty of fans, he absolutely has the power to make that happen. We also imagine that an appearance from him would be welcomed by so many people who do still miss him on TV (like everyone here at CarterMatt).

Ultimately, we like to think that for him, there are two things that he is taking into consideration before he decides to stop by as a guest star.

1. Not wanting to make this entire series all about him – We understand the interest in having Daniel Dae Kim on the show, especially since we’re as eager as anyone to see that happen. Yet, we’re also cognizant of the fact that he wants this show to succeed in its own right. We don’t think he is prioritizing ways to inject himself into the story; he has, however, already cast one actor who was on Hawaii Five-0 with him at one point.

2. Waiting for the right role – This is another part of the equation. If Kim is going to appear on The Good Doctor, we think that he is going to want to wait in order to find the part that is perfect for him to play. There’s no particular reason to rush into anything; this series is hopefully going to be around for a long time, so presumably he would either want a part that is super-memorable or one that he can come back and play more in the future.

The next new episode of The Good Doctor airs Monday night at 10:00 p.m. Eastern on ABC.
