SAG Awards 2018: In Memoriam honors Adam West, Don Rickles, David Cassidy

The SAG Awards 2018 had their In Memoriam segment tonight, and as you would imagine, this one got emotional pretty quickly. We lost a lot of wonderful people over the past twelve months who were stellar entertainers. We just wish that there were more opportunities to celebrate many of them while we were alive.

While we didn’t get a chance to jot down very name featured, some of the people included this year were Miguel Ferrer, John Hurt, Bill Paxton, Powers Boothe, Adam West, Martin Landau, John Heard, Glen Campbell, Jerry Lewis, John Hillerman, Mike Hodge, Harry Dean Stanton, Richard Anderson, Sam Shepard, Bernie Casey, Shelly Berman, Ann Wedgeworth, Rose Marie, Glenne Headly, Jay Thomas, Charlie Murphy, Nelsan Ellis, Dina Merrill, Jospeh Bologna, Roger Moore, Loren James, Dick Gregory, June Foray, Jerry Van Dyke, Paula Dell, John Bernecker, Della Reese, David Cassidy, Jim Nabors, Erin Moran, and Don Rickles.

Out of the performers who were honored this year, the name that probably moved us the most was West. We watched him as Batman early and often over the years; while the show originally aired well before our time, we still remember much of his word fondly. Beyond him losing Nelsan Ellis this year was an especially tough pill to swallow, given that he was such a gifted performer and was still so young when he passed. He was brilliant on True Blood and it would have been wonderful to see more of his work on other projects in the future.

Overall, we do like how the SAG Awards do this segment; it is simply, classy, and all about the performers. There is a real concentrated effort to ensure that the performers who left us are the stars and they get a chance to shine above all. We’re going to miss all of them, but this made for a rather wonderful trip down much of memory lane.
