Tracee Ellis Ross not leaving black-ish in midst of pay disparity reports
Let’s take a step back and have a deep breath: It’s not happening. There were never any real reports of her leaving to begin with. The only reason some of that chatter started was because of a piece in The Hollywood Reporter, which claimed that Ross may opt to do fewer episodes and take on guest spots elsewhere if the pay disparity between her and co-star Anthony Anderson was not addressed. The reason why this turned into talk about Ross “leaving” black-ish was simply due to the fact that there were some people who took the aforementioned report and exaggerated it to no end.
The first thing that we should note here is that it was never stated anywhere that Ross was seeking equal pay with Anderson, who is an executive producer on the series and was involved in its development. Instead, she just wanted to be compensated more so that there was less of a disparity between her salary and Anderson’s. That is something that she clarified today in a new post on Twitter. She also made it clear that THR never contacted her on the story about her salary and there were never any threats on her part to take time off from the show in order to do another job elsewhere.
Ultimately, most of this reporting will all blow over since it’s likely that Ross will receive a nice pay raise moving forward as black-ish prepares itself to stay on the air for a long time. This is a show that continues to take a lot of bold, interesting risks; it’s a show that, so long as the money is right, we can’t imagine anyone wanting to leave at some point in the near future.
