Better Call Saul season 4: Is Michelle MacLaren returning?
Based on what Thomas Schnauz had to say on Twitter (see HERE), it appears as though MacLaren is back for what is a pretty wonderful Breaking Bad reunion — right around the tenth anniversary of that show premiering, no less! MacLaren directing Schnauz’s first Breaking Bad episode so there’s probably something a little bit sweeter about this reunion because of that.
If MacLaren is indeed directing, this would mark her first episode of Better Call Saul since doing “Mijo,” the second episode of the first season. Some of her credits outside of the Vince Gilligan extended universe include Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, The Leftovers, and most recently The Deuce on HBO. She’s a master of painting beautiful visuals and pushing her characters to the limit.
Better Call Saul season 4 seems perfect for MacLaren, mostly because this is a season that should feature Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) at his breaking point. It wasn’t all that long ago that the character created the Saul Goodman alter ego in a professional sense, and with Chuck’s death and Kim’s life falling apart we are starting to think that he will creep ever closer to using that moniker for his legal profession. This is a man well on his way towards having a pretty-dark future and MacLaren knows a thing or two about dark descents after directing Bryan Cranston as Walter White for so long.
The only sad news for us as a viewer is having to wait so long (think late summer / early fall) for Better Call Saul to premiere. This is the longest wait between seasons that we’ve had ever since the series first premiered back in early 2015.
