This Is Us season 2 spoilers: Who is getting a pet?
According to a new report coming in right now via Entertainment Weekly, Lena Waithe is going to be appearing on Tuesday night’s new episode of the show as an animal-shelter employee, someone who helps to advice Kate as she works to find potentially the perfect pet for her.
We imagine that for Kate, finding the right pet could be a sort of healing for her. After all, this is a character who just lost a baby and is still in the healing process. She may be also be trying to handle some of her recent food addiction problems. Having a new dog or a cat in her life could be a fairly effective way for her to get past some of her demons and focus on something a little bit different — something that, at the end of the day, could be a little bit more positive for her. Bringing a pet into her world gives her a very different focus and something else to be rather happy about.

Also, we’re pretty sure that Kate getting a pet would be This Is Us figuring out a way to somehow make this show even more endearing. This is a show that warms many hearts, and there are few things in turn that warm hearts quite like getting some pets on the screen. We’re probably going to need to see something sweet and adorable as a means to offset some of the other drama that is happening in the episode — especially since we’re super-worried at this point about Jack’s death lingering around every corner.
