Why Once Upon a Time season 7 needs Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas return
By most accounts, the answer here appears to be “yes” — and it’s hard to make an argument for it otherwise. We feel like the ratings situation for the ABC series has already been pretty well-documented; the numbers are down year-to-year, and while we know that ABC is going to take a look at the DVR and streaming numbers before making their final decision, they may not know this until after filming wraps for this season.
What we’re trying to say for the most part here is this: Once Upon a Time needs to plan as though season 7 is their last in the event that it’s not, they can celebrate that and set the table again for an eighth season later.
The same reason we need to see Goodwin and Dallas back is the same reason why we’ve felt the need to see Jennifer Morrison stage a return to the show at some point — they were integral in so many ways to the success of the show! They helped launch Once Upon a Time and Snow White and Prince Charming became, by far, one of the series’ most-popular couples. They have a wonderful, loving relationship and while they had their fair share of struggles, they found a way to persevere through them.

We’re not saying that we necessarily need to see Goodwin and Dallas around for multiple episodes, even though that would be nice. It would be nice to just have one more update on them before the series finale wraps as fan service and a reminder that the two parties are happy.
Could it happen?
At the moment it’s hard to tell, mostly because Goodwin and Dallas have been extremely quiet since the end of season 6, opting against doing many interviews and living a private life with their family away from social media. We would hope that another episode would interest them but after giving six years to being a part of this show, we absolutely understand if they want to go about their business in their own way and feel like Snow and Charming have already the happy ending that they need.
