Supergirl season 3: Floriana Lima has talked about Maggie return

Floriana Lima

For everyone out there hoping to see Floriana Lima back on Supergirl season 3 in the near future, you can consider this to be one positive sign: There have been at least some talks.

During a recent Instagram Live session with some fans, Lima confirmed that the idea of her return is “definitely being talked about.” However, that’s no guarantee that a return will happen given that there are a few other things that need to be considered. First, a return has to fit in with her own schedule; beyond that, it has to fit with what Supergirl is doing in terms of its own story. (We do have a feeling that the writers would be more than flexible when it comes to the story provided that it meant they would be getting Floriana back.)

We know that the demand for Lima’s return has been there on the show since the very moment she departed — heck, the demand was even around before that for some people who heard the news over the summer that she would no longer be a series regular. We also know that there remains mutual interest in having her back. Show executive producer Greg Berlanti has made it clear that he hopes she will return as Maggie Sawyer, an incredibly important character to both many characters on the show as well as many fans. She’s passionate, driven, and her love story with Alex was an inspiration to a big percentage of the audience. Lima herself has always said that she had an interest in coming back, so hearing that there are discussions should not come as a surprise.

So provided that Lima does return this season, when could it be?

Think most likely in terms of the final portion of the season airing this spring. The story’s already mapped out for the remainder of the show’s winter arc; it is going off the air starting in February, and following that it will not return until we get around to April. (Legends of Tomorrow is taking its place in the schedule.) The season 3 finale for Supergirl will air at some point in June. We would be all for seeing Maggie back around in the finale, especially if it set up a story that would enable her to be around even more in a potential fourth season. (Supergirl has not technically been renewed as of yet, but all indications at the moment are that you will get a chance to see more of the series down the road.)

Rest assured, once more news is official, we’ll have more reporting here at the site. Feel free to share your thoughts on this subject in the comments.
