Should Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters get series order?
Following tonight’s big premiere on The CW, do you think that the Supernatural spin-off Wayward Sisters will get a series order?
While we haven’t seen the Wayward Sisters ratings as of yet, we do still have a one-word answer to this question: Yes. We think that the show is going to end up on the schedule somewhere.
For starters, Wayward Sisters did a smart thing but giving us a chance to get to know so many of these people in advance. The reason why Supernatural: Bloodlines (the previous backdoor pilot) was such a clear miss was because these were all characters you didn’t know and, to be frank, didn’t care about at all. The show was like a boring cousin of The Originals.
In this case, though, what makes Wayward Sisters stand out is that it really does feel like you are watching Supernatural, just with a different package and some other fun characters. The cast for the new series worked, it was fun, but it was also still heartfelt in its own way. This is the Supernatural spin-off we deserve and it feels like there is a lot of good stuff that the show can take on. It has its own identity, and there are personal and supernatural issues that the story could take on.
Also, what we like about Wayward Sisters is that it appeals to all sorts of audiences. While we do think that diehard fans of the original show will love it, there are also still people who haven’t seen it who will probably enjoy it even without advance knowledge of Supernatural. There are so many universal themes here that appeal to almost everyone in 2018.
When will we learn about the future of Wayward Sisters?
Based on where we are right now in the story, our feeling is that we could end up learning the truth on the series’ future by around the time May rolls around. Hopefully, The CW will make a decision before then, but this is as long as they will have in order to figure things out.
