Once Upon a Time season 7: Lana Parrilla directing episode
In a new post on Twitter Tuesday night, show executive producer Adam Horowitz confirmed that Parrilla will be directing the seventeenth episode of the season, one with the very simple title of “Chosen.” There’s not all that much that you can gleam from that alone, but the idea of Parrilla making her directorial debut on the show is exciting. This is an opportunity that does at times get offered to cast members of various shows who are interested in the gig — Mariska Hargitay does it for Law & Order: SVU, Joe Mantegna tends to do it a couple of times a season for Criminal Minds, Jensen Ackles is a semi-regular Supernatural director, and Ellen Pompeo is getting set to helm her second episode of Grey’s Anatomy later this season.
Parrilla’s episode is going to be a chance for her to inject some of her own tone and creativity into the story, and we imagine that she will do a superb show. After all, we don’t exactly think that there are very many people out there who have the same sort of connection to the show that she does. She’s been on set from the very beginning, and to go along with that we’re also talking here about somebody who has traveled the world with the show and met many diehard fans. She knows what they want from the series and what they are looking for, and she can impart some of that knowledge into what’s coming.

Based on when this episode lies within the order, as of right now we imagine that this Once Upon a Time installment will air in the spring. Hopefully, by that time we’ll know whether or not this is the final season or if there is another batch of episodes that could be coming after the fact.
