Chicago PD season 5 episode 13 spoilers: Could Voight’s past seal his fate?

Hank Voight

Very few things stay buried in Chicago for all that long; it doesn’t quite matter how long they stay buried. This is one of the central components to Chicago PD season 5 episode 13, an installment known as “Chasing Monsters” airing on January 31. This is the final episode airing before the Winter Olympics, and it could also mark one of the most important moments to date in the career of Hank Voight.

We don’t want to spend too much time on the setup here; instead, just take a look at the Chicago PD season 5 episode 13 synopsis below:

01/31/2018 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Wednesday) : WHEN A GANG FROM EL SALVADOR INFILTRATES CHICAGO, INTELLIGENCE WORKS WITH A VISITING DETECTIVE TO PUT AN END TO THE CREW’S BRUTAL TACTICS. And Antonio (Jon Seda) finds himself getting close to the Salvadoran Detective, Marcella Gomez (guest star Sofia Lama), only to learn she has a hidden motive for being in Chicago. Meanwhile, Voight (Jason Beghe) learns that the body of his son’s killer has been found. Also starring Jesse Lee Soffer, Patrick John Flueger, Elias Koteas, Marina Squerciati, LaRoyce Hawkins, Amy Morton and Tracy Spiridakos. Guest starring Ricardo Gutierrez, Chike Johnson and Rene L. Moreno.

With Voight as a character, it’s been increasingly hard to reconcile the cop that he is with the vigilante side of his personality. It’s one thing to take the bad guys off the street; it’s another thing altogether to murder them. Justin’s killer is not the only person Hank has killed this year; he even did that earlier this season! We do wonder just how long Chicago PD can reconcile being this supposed show about justice with also being a show that features a main character doing such brutal things. Honestly, we’d be surprised if the series ends with Hank in charge; it’s mostly just a matter of when things come back to bite him rather than if, and bringing this body back into play could get that ball rolling. (Who knows? Maybe we’re wrong and Voight skates on this, but it’s hard to believe that a character who has done this sort of thing would evade punishment.

We imagine that there will also be questions about whether or not this storyline could lead to an appearance from Sophia Bush, given that Lindsay played a key role in that story with Voight over a year ago. We don’t see that happening, alas.
