This is Us season 2 theory: Is this how Jack will die?

This Is Us season 2 is slowly bringing us towards a moment that we know so many people out there have a pit in their stomach about, and it’s a rather simple one: The death of Jack Pearson. It’s been hinted about and teased; the only thing that is 100% known as of right now is that this moment is going to be coming before the end of the season.

The tease at the end of Tuesday night’s episode, though, is the latest bit of evidence that Milo Ventimiglia’s character may be passing away, and soon. After all, signs point to the character trying to make his new construction dream come true. It’s an ambitious thing to take on, especially as the character is entering a new phase of his life with the Big Three going away to school.

Unfortunately, it’s also very easy to see just how this could end in tragedy. All it would take is just one mistake at a job site to cause things to catch fire, and then the world of the entire Pearson family could crumble. Kate feels responsible for whatever happened, so with that there’s a chance that whatever transpired here could have been prompted by something she did. Maybe she messed around with something at the site, or caused Jack some sort of grief where he wasn’t thinking clearly.

One way or another, Jack taking on a new job at a time when he’s overwhelmed may not be a good thing for him. He could start drinking again, and this in turn could send him down a spiral where he makes a mistake that he cannot walk back.

Is this another case of This Is Us throwing us off?

Maybe. There have been so many other theories out there that have already been disproven. One other thing to potentially consider here as a scenario is one where the cause of death was not actually teased at all in prior episodes — it just comes out of nowhere, and this is a part of the massive element of surprise that we get.
