Doctor Who season 11 auditions lasted months for Jodie Whittaker

Doctor Who season 11 audition

For those who were wondering just how big a deal the Doctor Who season 11 auditions were, here’s a pretty good hint: It took months in order for the BBC and all parties involved to be sure that Jodie Whittaker was the right candidate for the job.

In speaking on this subject more inside the new edition of Doctor Who Magazine, Whittaker made it clear that it was a lengthy series of auditions that it eventually led to her getting the gig. As a result of that, there were many monologues, rehearsals, and almost anything and everything else you could possibly imagine going into the big Doctor announcement. To go along with this, the BBC decided to reveal that Whittaker had the part the day before she ended up filming her regeneration scene. Basically, this was their way of ensuring that nothing came out before the scene filmed and they could go about their business. This is, after all, not an announcement anyone wanted leaked in some cheap paparazzi shot.

In speaking about the timing further to Doctor Who Magazine, Whittaker had the following to say:

“If I’d been seen in Cardiff, being taken to Roath Lock, it would have been very obvious that I was playing the part … So they announced it the day before.”

Now, the rest is history for the time being. We now just have to wait until later this year for Doctor Who season 11 and to see whether or not the constant hype surrounding the show proves to be worth it. We very much hope it is, largely because this is the sort of series more than capable of bringing so much greatness to the table. It’s a chance for a new start; Peter Capaldi was great, but Whittaker brings with her something new and fresh. We certainly know production took its time to find the right choice.
