Shameless season 8 episode 11 preview: Will Frank retire? Debbie’s decision

Shameless season 8 episode 11 is coming onto Showtime in one week’s time, and all indications are that it’s going to be a big one — especially for Debbie and for Frank. With us getting so close to the end of the season, we are finally nearing the point where they have to start thinking about their long-term future. That would be great, provided that some of these characters had the capacity to make competent decisions. We’re not altogether confident in the ability of some of these people to do the right thing.

Fiona’s homeless tenants barricade themselves inside her apartment. Lip takes in a terrified Sierra and Lucas when her father is released from prison. Meanwhile Ian, despite warnings, provides sanctuary to a runaway teen, Frank considers his retirement and Debbie must choose between paying for school and paying for surgery to keep her toes.

The story, to us, that could have the largest ramifications is what happens with Ian. He wants to be a good person, and that is why he decided to help out a teen in need. Yet, the tables could turn here quickly and he could be putting himself in danger not too long after already getting himself in a tricky spot thanks to internet fame. By the end of this episode, we could see Ian reeling more than he has in years moving into the finale.

As for Frank, we’re pretty sure that he will just retire, if for no other reason to get to reap whatever benefits he can out of that and also come up with even more ways in which he can explain away some of his mistakes. That is something that he loves to do; of course, we’re not entirely sure that “retire” is the right word for what Frank is doing given that he’s barely worked for the vast majority of his life.
