Victoria season 2 premiere preview (PBS): Jenna Coleman series returns!

Victoria season 2 premiere

It’s been a long wait for US viewers, but the Victoria season 2 premiere is airing Sunday night on PBS! You will have a chance to see Jenna Coleman and the cast back in action and there is a lot to celebrate here!

Let’s begin with the new Victoria season 2 video below, which gives you a good sense of where the character is at in the opening moments of the season. Coleman and Tom Hughes take advantage of this opportunity to tease some of what is going to be coming up in both the premiere and the remainder of the season. The title character is going to struggle with many things in this season, whether it be returning to her duties or handling a pregnancy that she does not actually want. Coleman describes that what makes this series so interesting is that she takes on a very different sort of character than you often see on TV — someone who is happily married but not interested in being a mother many times over anymore. This dynamic is going to put a strain on the marriage, as is the desire for Albert to have some sort of power and control.

As for what’s coming within the two hours of Victoria we’ve got airing on PBS Sunday (that’s right — the premiere is actually the first two episodes that aired in the UK), CarterMatt has the official synopsis for you below:

New mother Victoria is impatient to return to the business of ruling a nation, while Albert attempts to protect her from the increasingly desperate news regarding British soldiers in Afghanistan. Victoria is thrown into turmoil by the realization that she is pregnant again, and her equilibrium is further threatened by Albert’s burgeoning friendship with the lady mathematician, Ada Lovelace.

Just from reading this alone you can see what some of the drama is going to be for Victoria and Albert. After all, these two characters are going to struggle with figuring out who they are and the sort of people they want to be. That includes the friendships that they’re going to have.
