Madam Secretary season 4: Will Dmitri return this season?

Will Dmitri eventually return to Madam Secretary? It’s possible, but you’re not going to see him back at any point in the near future.

Based on what executive producer Barbara Hall told TVLine, it doesn’t look as though the character will return this season after he was shipped away in the midst of a storyline that left him in danger. By extension, the same went for Elizabeth’s daughter and his no-longer-secret girlfriend Stevie:

“We did complete his arc with the McCord family and his job with the CIA. We don’t have any immediate plans for him coming back … We did give him the job that we gave him, which was we sent him to another post so we could leave it open to have him back for future storylines.”

Personally, we do envision many scenarios where Dmitri could return in the future given that he’s still out there and it’s not exactly like he and Stevie had some sort of emotional falling-out. The only reason he’s gone is because he was forced to. This was one of the only ways in which he and Stevie’s safety was secured in the near future; there will be presumably many an opportunity to bring him back to this world based on what we see take shape with the overall story.

For now, the focus on Madam Secretary season 4 seems to be dealings within both the Cabinet and the White House. There are some who will begin to question Dalton’s fitness to serve as President, and in the midst of this there are questions surrounding whether or not Elizabeth is going to run for President in the future. There was some tension that came out with the Vice-President at the end of this past episode on this subject, mostly because of Elizabeth refusing to say that she has no interest in running. It’s not on her mind right now, but who is to say for certain what the future is going to hold?
