David Letterman – Barack Obama interview streaming on Netflix January 12
Today, Netflix released a new video from My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman. The whole focus of this series is to feature Letterman in a wide array of different interview settings, and this time around he’s on a stage with the former President of the United States. Obama was a guest on The Late Show in the past, so it’s no surprise that he would be who Letterman would want for the start of the show. He’s an immensely popular figure for many and he tends to be better than your standard politician on late-night TV.
The video sneak peek released by Netflix is not so much based around anything serious. Instead, it’s Letterman and Obama having a talk all about dad dancing. Letterman’s trademark laugh is here, as is that massive Santa beard that he’s grown ever since retiring from The Late Show. Other than that and the absence of the live band, this is still very much the Dave that so many people out there remember.
Letterman’s desire to get back into the talk-show game seems mostly to be a direct result of his own boredom more than anything else. We imagine that when you get so used to going on stage and entertaining an audience for the majority of your life, it’s hard to really move away from that. You want to keep entertaining, but with this show will likely come, at least at times, some harder questions and more intricate subject matter. The interviews, after all, are a little more longform in nature.
