Designated Survivor season 2 gets Michael J. Fox as guest star
Michael J. Fox will guest star in five episodes of Designated Survivor, and is going to play a role that could have huge ramifications for the remainder of the series.
ABC describes Fox’s role as “Ethan West, a high-flying and connected Washington attorney who is hired by the President’s Cabinet and ultimately appointed as special prosecutor to investigate former President Cornelius Moss’s alleged leak of classified information. West is a hyper-competitive, wily, relentless lawyer who plays his cards close to the vest and whose only allegiance is to his mandate – a single-mindedness that makes him an unpredictable and formidable adversary for President Tom Kirkman, played by Emmy Award®-winning actor Kiefer Sutherland.”
This is an intriguing part for many different reasons, especially since Fox is so good at playing these smart, cunning roles. There will obviously be some similarities that are here between this character and Louis Canning from The Good Wife — both are formidable attorneys who can get the job done using whatever tools that they possibly can. The biggest difference between the two obviously comes in the form of the sphere by which they operate.

Fox will always be probably best known for his work on the Back to the Future feature film franchise alongside Family Ties. Some of his other credits include Spin City and The Michael J. Fox Show. He is someone who always brings a lot of passion to anything that he does and the series is lucky to have him, especially for as long as they do. With Designated Survivor season 2 clearly on the ratings bubble at the moment this is the sort of guest spot that could help turn the tide a little bit and get more people checking out the show.
