This Is Us season 2 Super Bowl episode now even more of an event; why?

We suppose that there hasn’t been a whole lot of hype around it as of late, but there is a This Is Us season 2 Super Bowl episode coming on February 4. Yet, that’s happening, and to go along with that there’s another reason to be excited.

Following the This Is Us season 2 Super Bowl episode, there is going to be an appearance from all of the show’s core five cast members — Milo Ventimiglia, Chrissy Metz, Mandy Moore, Justin Hartley, and Sterling K. Brown — on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The show will be filmed at Minneapolis’ Orpheum Theatre, not too far from where the big game is being played.

(Has there been enough attention on the fact that the Minnesota Vikings could end up effectively having a home game for the Super Bowl? We’re not sure that there is.)

The cast of This Is Us, or at least the ones who are in attendance for this show, are going to be joined by Super Bowl 52 Halftime Show performer Justin Timberlake and then also Dwayne Johnson. Basically, it’s a great lineup for NBC of people who are both relevant to the evening and also super-famous to the demographic of the people watching the big game.

One of the other questions that we have for the This Is Us season 2 Super Bowl episode

Is this going to be the one that showcases how Jack died? While we obviously don’t want to see that happen, at the same time we wouldn’t be shocked if this is the big reveal at the end of the episode. NBC obviously wants to make this episode into a huge event, so what better way to do that than to feature some sort of story point that viewers have long been clamoring for.

(One other novel idea — This Is Us features a game between the Vikings and the Pearson family favorite Pittsburgh Steelers. If that matchup happens we feel like NBC executives may end up spontaneously combusting. If only the writers could predict it many months in advance…)
